Job Description

Under the general supervision of the fire chief and the direct supervision of the firefighter’s duty crew officer, responds to calls for service and performs maintenance on department apparatus, equipment and facilities.

General Summary:
1. Responds to calls for service in a safe manner. 
2. Wears department issued turnout gear at all emergencies unless given permission to remove his/her turnout gear from the officer in charge. 
3. Performs fire suppression duties ordered and in conformance with generally accepted firefighting practices.  Any tasks performed must be commensurate with the individual’s level of training. 
4. Returns to the fire station after each call and assists in preparing equipment, supplies and apparatus for the next call for service. 
5. Attends training sessions, business meetings, and work meetings. 
6. Performs routine maintenance on equipment and apparatus in conformance with departmental policy.

Education: MUST complete the Michigan Firefighter's Training Council Firefighter 1 proficiency exam within two years from the date of hire.
